Craftsman 140cc Gas Edger – Review

Craftsman Edger FAQ

What is an Edger?

An edger is a garden tool designed to make edges around lawns, plant beds, etc. It has a blade that cuts a gap between the grass and the area you’re trying to separate it from. It’s much more efficient than the regular spade or lawnmower when you want to make even, neat, and tidy edges. The edgers are typically used to define clear boundaries and stop grass incursion.

How to Use an Edger?

Whether you are using the Craftsman edger or any other edger you like, you should remember about your safety. So before you start edging your lawn, make sure to wear protective clothing, shoes, and goggles. It’s also recommended to wear some sound-blocking earplugs to ensure a more convenient working process.

Step 1. Mow the lawn before you start using an edger so the edges are not longer or shorter than the lawn. This way you will also be able to trim the spots that you could miss while mowing.

Step 2. Mark out the borders that you will be trimming along by laying a long rope along the path to be edged. Leave some space between the marked area and the edge of a lawn.

Step 3. Remove all the obstacles that can damage your tool from the area you will be edging. It could be sticks, stones, roots, etc.

Step 4. Position the edger within about 1 inch of the lawn edge.

Step 5. If you are using a manual edger, press its blade down into the soil using your foot and begin to cut through. When using the edger with an engine, turn it on and slowly walk along the marked path as your edger cuts into the ground.

Step 6. Cut approximately 2 inches deep to keep an even cut. It will help control the spread of roots and will keep the grass away from the edge. If you are using an automatic edger, you can set the depth with the help of some switch or knob. In the case with the manual edger, you may cut deeper than 2 inches.

Step 7. Don’t forget to take quick breaks to remove the cut grass and to check if you are cutting straight.

Step 8. After you finish edging, cut all the long and unkempt grass blades with scissors or electric weed wacker.
